MAIN STREET DESIGNATION
Commissioner Susan Bass Levin Designates the
City of South Amboy to Main Street Program.

South Amboy, N.J. - Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Commissioner Susan Bass Levin today announced that the City of South Amboy has been admitted to the 2004 Main Street New Jersey Program.
South Amboy will join 21 other New Jersey communities that receive special state assistance to revitalize their downtown business districts under the DCA’s Main Street Program.
"South Amboy is very excited it has been chosen to participate in the Main Street Program," said Mayor John O'Leary. "Our business community is very receptive and we have been very excited in anticipation of this designation. South Amboy intends to take full advantage of what this designation provides us."
“We are excited with our partnership with the DCA, to ensure and continue the progress of the Main Street goals and objectives,” said Senator Joseph Vitali.
Known as the “heart” of New Jersey, based on its central location within the state, South Amboy is the recipient of several revitalization grants including, the Neighborhood Preservation and Neighborhood Preservation Home grants, as well as a Smart Growth Planning grant.
“The only New Jersey municipality to have three types of public transit – ferry, rail and bus – historic South Amboy has already proven its desire for successful revitalization efforts,” said DCA Commissioner Levin.
